Register & Declare

Know what you want, but not sure how to make it official? Here's exactly how.

Declare a Major or Minor
Why it matters, and the exact steps
Why declare?
  • Required for graduation, and ensures it appears on your transcript
  • You're assigned a faculty advisor — the earlier you declare, the sooner you get support
  • You're added to the department's listserv for scholarships, internships, and jobs
Declaring the Justice Studies Major
  1. Download the Major Declaration form.
  2. Check "first major" and "Justice Studies," then sign and date.
  3. Email it to justice-studies@neiu.edu.
Declaring a Minor
  1. Download the Minor Declaration form.
  2. Select "first minor" if you have none yet, check the minor you're declaring, sign and date.
  3. Email it to justice-studies@neiu.edu.
Register for Classes
Register, drop, and manage waitlists
How to register

  2. Menu (top-left) → "Student" → "Class Registration Menu" → select your term.
  3. Click "Register for Classes," select your term again, then "Advanced Search."
  4. Filter by Subject, Campus, or Attribute (which requirement it fulfills).
  5. Click "Add" to place a course in your cart (status: "Pending").
  6. In the Summary box, click "Submit" — this is the step that actually registers you.
How to drop a course

Follow steps 1–4 above, then in the Summary box set the Action to "Web Dropped" and click "Submit." Official guide ↗

Joining or leaving a waitlist

Join: if a course is "FULL," click "Add" anyway, set Action to "Wait List," submit. Email the professor — attending the first class helps. If a seat opens, change status to "Web Registered" and submit.

Leave: set Action to "Web Dropped" and submit.
